The Little Brother/Little Sister Youth Intervention Program (YIP) has been active in Lake of the Woods, Kittson and Roseau Counties since 2000. We are based out of Northwest Community Action in Badger, Minnesota.

Our program matches up caring volunteers with youth that could benefit from extra one-on-one attention. Research demonstrates that mentoring programs such as the Little Brother/Little Sister program helps youths with truancy issues, relationships at home, and helps them to overcome many challenges they face.

Many of us can point to individuals who influenced our lives and helped shape who we are today. Whether they were teachers, coaches, relatives, clergy or other community members, these positive role models have been critical to our development.

To be a mentor, you don’t need any special skills – just an ability to listen and offer friendship to a young person growing up today. You’ll be amazed by how much you’ll get out of the experience.
